Securing Help In Family Transportation (SHIFT) is LCSA’s most unique program, and the only one of its kind in the Phoenix metropolitan area. For over 15 years, SHIFT has helped families remain self-reliant by providing them with an affordable vehicle. Low-income families often have difficulties purchasing a vehicle due to bad or lack of credit. Many families fall victim to predatory lending practices from local dealerships. Often families end up purchasing a vehicle that requires many costly repairs.
LCSA’s SHIFT Program offers reliable vehicles at a very low price to working poor families that have identified transportation as a major barrier to their long-term financial independence. A major component of the SHIFT program is the Maintenance Agreement. This agreement covers the cost of regular maintenance and most repairs for the first 24 months or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first.
Families engage in financial coaching and workforce development services through LCSA to set realistic goals for increasing their earned income, improving budgeting skills, reducing debt, improving credit, and engaging in mainstream banking. SHIFT is more than just a car ownership program, it is a financial empowerment tool that allows families to access higher paying jobs while avoiding predatory lenders.
SHIFT partners with Mesa Community College to provide families basic car maintenance education so they can be more informed and responsible car owners.
